It is so annoying how the adults run the show around here. Girls are not able to choose who they want to marry. Instead, our parents, mostly the father, and in my case Leonato, choose who we are to marry based on a man's power and prestige. Most of the time, the men are much older than us, sometimes by ten years. What's up with that? I want to marry someone for love, not because my uncle likes him! Luckily, Leonato has not noticed anyone suitable for me yet, and I do not want him to pick someone out for me because I am in love with Benedick.
It is surprising to me that Leonato did not pick Claudio to be Hero's husband; instead, Claudio fell in love with Hero and asked Leonato for his consent. I wonder if Leonato allowed Hero to marry Claudio because Claudio is the lord of Florence. I am hoping that Leonato will approve of Benedick, now that I know Benedick loves me.
Not only do the adults choose who the girls are to marry, they expect us to be completely obedient to them! Do you know how hard that is? Sometimes, when Leonato or Don Pedro says something to me that I do not particularly like, I find it hard to bite me tongue and let it pass!

Beatrice's Playlist
I have several favorite songs that I listen to all the time. They include a variety of genres. The first song on my playlist is "Hall of Fame" by the Script. This song has a powerful message about being able to anything once you set your mind to it. It reminds me that I am the one who takes charge of my life, not Leonato, Benedick, or anyone else. The next song is "On Top of the World" by Imagine Dragons. This song is different compared to other songs by this band, but I especially like it when I am feeling sad and down because it gets me moving. The next song, which is the third track, is "When You Were Young" by the Killers. It reminds me of my childhood and that one day I will meet someone who will be the perfect husband (as in Benedick). The final song on my playlist is "Out of My League" by Fitz and the Tantrums. It's one of those songs that are impossible to not dance to. Most of the time, I don't even know what they are saying, so I just listen to the tune. The lyrics that I do know remind me of my "relationship" with Benedick, before I found out that he was in love with me. I had really high standards for men, and I always thought I was above Benedick.

Beatrice's Family
My family consists of my uncle, Leonato, and my cousin Hero, as well as Hero's servants. I live with Leonato and Hero, so Leonato is like a father to me, and Hero and I are as close as anyone could be, like sisters. We complement each other well. She is reserved and shy, while I am outgoing and talkative. I also consider Claudio to be part of my family, since he is marrying Hero soon- he acts as if he was my own brother. The servants, Margeret and Ursula, not only take care of Hero and me, but we sometimes confide in our servants some of our secrets.
You may be wondering if I have a father and a mother. Obviously, I did at one point. Everyone has parents! My parents died when I was very young. In fact, my mother died after she gave birth to me, and my father died only days later because he was heartbroken. I don't blame him. Even though I never knew my parents, I feel like we have a special bond that connects me to them. I wish I could have met them, and I think about them all the time. I never talk about them though, so this is the first time I am actually publicly speaking about my parents. Luckily, my uncle and my cousin have been kind enough to take me in and raise me since the time I was a tiny baby.
Letter to Hero
Dear Hero,
I am going to tell you a secret. I overhead two people, not mentioning any names, talking about a certain man named Benedick and how he is in love with me. Me? I asked myself the same questions over and over again: Why is he in love with me and not someone else? And for how long? I guess after all these days, Benedick bickering with me is really a coverup for his feelings for me. He was too overwhelmed with love that he tried to hide it with his witless words. Benedick of all people! He would be the last on my list of who is in love with me. Now that I think of it, though, I recall dancing with Benedick at the ball and insulting him, like I usually do. He could not take my insults anymore, so he left. Maybe he was in despair that I did not love him back? I do not know, but I feel something suddenly wrapping around me. It could be the feeling that you know too well: falling in love. Obviously, since you are getting married in a few days, you know how love feels. A long time ago, Benedick played with my heart, which is why we are constantly arguing. Do you think I should trust him? I believe I should; afterall, he is a good man on the inside.
Love,
Beatrice

Beatrice's Dream Vacation
Of all places to visit in the world, I would definitely choose to visit Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon in the United States. I have been watching The Amazing Race, and all the places the contestants go to look so beautiful. I think these places would definitely take my mind off of Benedick and all the others who are getting on my nerves. Yellowstone is breathtakingly beautiful, and it would definitely calm my nerves if I visited there. Have you ever seen Old Faithful? After watching that documentary on the History Channel, I was hooked to its natural beauty. The Grand Canyon would also be a gorgeous place to visit. I can just imagine looking over the side of a cliff to the river below and thinking about how amazing this experience would be. My friend Samantha's younger brother actually went to the Grand Canyon, and he told me all about it. I was so jealous of him! Well, it was not really jealousy, it was more like longing. Hopefully, I would go by myself. Maybe I would take Hero- she is the only person I tolerate, besides my uncle Leonato and Don Pedro. Enough of this blogging! It's time to book myself a plane ticket to the USA and visit these places I dream about!
Beatrice's Favorite Quote
I was browsing the internet recently, and I came upon this quote by Susan Butcher, the Iditarod winner in 1988: "I do not know the word 'quit.' Either I never did, or I abolished it." I feel like this quote describes me. In fact, it is me. I think I have mentioned Benedick before, but if I have not, let me just say he is not my favorite person in the world, to put it nicely. I think we bicker too much to get along with each other, and I don't know if we will ever act friendly towards one another.
Going back to the quote, I feel like that quote describes me for who I am. Yes, I do argue with Benedick a lot, but that is to prove my point. Yes, we insult each other, but I just try to tell him what I think because he obviously does not get it. Usually, I win these arguments because I know how to fight back. I have persistence, which allows me to win most of my arguments with Benedick. I feel like persistence is an important quality for a woman to have, especially in this society. Just like Susan Butcher, I never give up, and I persist in what I think is worth the argument.

Beatrice's Diary Entry
Dear Diary,
Benedick is such an pugnacious pest! I am constantly insulting him, and he is constantly insulting me. It is a battle of the wits! Earlier today, I was talking to my favorite uncle, Leonato, about this Benedick character. I mentioned to him that "four of his five wits went halting off," in a recent argument with Benedick, meaning that Benedick has little to no common sense. At first, I thought, "He must fancy me because he is teasing me." I shrugged it off as if it was nothing. However, we continued to bicker with each other, and I reasoned that he must really enjoy picking fights with people. No matter! I actually enjoy bickering with him because I am able to prove my point. Additionally, Benedick told me that he is "loved of all ladies" with only one exception, which is me. I find that quite ridiculous, for he has no heart at all and should not be loved by others.
On a brighter note, I overheard Claudio talking with Don Pedro about his crush on Hero, my cousin, after I left the room. I love Hero as if she was my own sister, and I do not want anything to happen to her! Claudio does seem like a kind man, though, so I think that he would be a good match for my cousin. I truly hope that he will make his love known to her soon! She really needs a new chapter added to her life.
